Topsy Turvy (6/18)

C1-Australia's Sam Kerr pounced on a C4-Jamaica GK mistake in the 83' and her 4th goal of the match proved to be the difference in securing 2nd place in Group C and facing 2A-Norway with a 4-1 win.  While C2-Italy and C3-Brazil were tied, AUS was comfortably in 2nd but a BRA PK by Marta (now the all-time WC, men's or women's, goal scorer with 17 passing GER's Miraslav Klose) in the 74' had put BRA into 2nd.  So despite BRA beating ITA 1-0 and both having 6 points (along with AUS), ITA takes 1st on goal differential and AUS takes 2nd on goals scored, leaving BRA to face either 1A-France or 1B-Germany.  Yikes.  Of course, had BRA scored again and won 2-0, they would have taken 1st (GD and GF with ITA would have been equal (both beat AUS on GD), so head-to-head comes into play).

Kerr now has 5 goals tying USA's Alex Morgan in the lead.  3B-China PR and 3C-Brazil have clinched 2 of the 4 3rd place spots as 7 teams will battle to take the last two 3rd place spots.  14 of 16 teams are in the R16.  D1-England just needs a tie against D4-Japan to win Group D and have a smoother ride to the semifinals.  The 2nd place team will face either E1-Canada or E4-Netherlands.  D3-Argentina would advance with a win and possibly, could even sneak in with a tie.  D2-Scotland needs a win to leapfrog 3A-Nigeria for a better chance to advance.

On Tuesday, Group C: 27 went 2-0 (39 AUS, 27 BRA) while 5 went 0-2.  34 got all 3 teams in while 10 got 2 teams (35 ITA, 44 AUS, 43 BRA (From the Pubs! (34th-Tied, 44) only one not to pick BRA)).   On placement (Mauihammy II (21st-T, 47) was only one to have ITA 1st, 7 AUS 2nd, 11 BRA 3rd (9 as CDE, 2 as ACD).

Overall, 20 picked up max of 11 points while 3 got just 7 points.  30 have all 8 R16 teams while BENSANCHO (38th-T, 43) has 6.  The same 4 are tied for 1st with 51 pts (Eleanor Abernathy, Fotografo il Migliore, Pazzo Americano, Spermicidal FC) and 3 tied for last with 42 pts (Coco, Hereforthecommentary, Poolraider).
