Round of 16 Pool by BigRedMessi (Deadline first match Saturday!)

Sorry for the late notice but this has been a very bad week for me.... Eric Foster (BigRedMessi) is running his own Round of 16 pool with lots of interesting twists... for you soccer lovers (and gamblers), please enter!

Hello Friends,

Please let me know if you’re joining the World Cup Round of 16 Pool.  Below are the categories and instructions.  I will post picks online on the morning of Saturday, June 26^th. 

FYI, because the last few teams may not be determined until June 25^th, I recommend you do one of two things:  A) Send me all of your picks early and use “1^st Place of Group A vs. 2^nd Place Group B” format for the games categories, or B) Wait until June 25^th and submit all of your picks at once.  Choice B is a little more risky if you’re not spot-on with your timing (I will send a reminder anyhow).  I’m willing to take your initial picks and change them on the 25^th…this will ensure you spend some time on your picks.

All Picks are only for the 4-Day Weekend’s Round of 16 Games June 26-29.  The closest to the actual cumulative total between all 8 games gets 1 point for each of these categories:

1) Total Goals Scored (example: 20 goals in 8 games between all 16 teams)

2) Total Goals from Penalty Kicks (excludes game-ending PK’s if necessary) (example:  4 goals in 8 games between all 16 teams)

3) Total Yellow Cards Given (ex: 20 yellow cards in 8 games between all 16 teams)

4) Total Red Cards Dished Out (ex: 5 red cards in 8 games between all 16 teams)

5) Total Corner Kicks (ex: 50 corner kicks in 8 games between all 16 teams)

6) Total Goal Cross Bars hit (ex: 20 cross bars hit in 8 games between all 16 teams)

7) Total Number of Injuries (counted as any player pulled from the game due to injury throughout the Round)

8) Total Number of Injured Players Carried Off the Field (pick a finite number) (any soccer player who completely gets onto a stretcher will count, even if he gets back off before carried off the field, thems da rules!) (last time in 2006, I can’t remember how many, but it seemed like 5 or 6 between all 8 games)

Select Game Winners (there are no ties, all games result in a winner even if a round of penalty kicks is necessary):

9)         1A vs. 2B

10)        1C vs. 2D

11)        1D vs. 2C

12)        1B vs. 2A

13)        1E vs. 2F

14)        1G vs. 2H

15)        1F vs.  2E

16)        1H vs. 2G

Tie Breaker: Name the Top 3 Goal Scorers during the Group of 16 matches.

POOL WINNER is he/she who gets the most total points.  Therefore, the max score possible in this pool is 16 points.  Entry fee for the Pool is $40 per person, with 60% going to first place, 30% going to second place, and 10% to third place.  Statistics for Goal Crossbars hit, Total Number of Injuries and Total Number of Injured Players Carried Off the Field will be tallied by Eric Foster and Reza Amidi.  All other stats will be available thru FIFA’s or ESPN’s websites.  

Please mail payments to: Eric Foster, 1707 PCH #225, Hermosa Beach, CA 90254 by check, no later than Friday, June 25^th, 2010.  Picks must be submitted to me by email at erfoster@gmail.com no later than 7am on Saturday morning, June 26^th.  Again, I strongly recommend you submit “pre-selected” teams in advance to be safe, in case you forget to send in your picks once the last Group games have completed on Friday, June 25^th.  For instance, you can pick “1H to beat 2G” before you know the actual winners of Groups G & H.  Then, send me your final updates that day / afternoon for posting.
